As time goes by
Yesterday was one of those recording sessions where the very first try of each piece comes out almost perfectly, then you try again and again only for it to get worse each time (I'm sure every musician can relate).
Here's a short version of something that's been on my mind for the past few weeks. This early-jazz style of stride piano with wide dynamic range and chords is what made me want to learn to play the instrument in the first place and, as life goes, here I am some fifteen years later finally having the faintest hope of attempting it, prompted by the magnificent version that features in a film I watched recently.
Can you guess which one? (that's a rhetorical question, I don't care, but you can “let me know in the comments below” if you'd like)
Hint #1: it's the greatest film of all time.
Hint #2: even though you can't see her, Ingrid Bergman sat just out of view saying “play it, Sam” with a longing look on her face and humming the melody.
Each of us has a destiny. For good, or for evil.
I wonder if you know that you're trying to escape from yourself… and that you'll never succeed.
